The art of finishing (and publishing) research projects

This slide is from a presentation delivered last year by Professor Maria Raciti at the UniSC Research Conference.

As so many academics I’ve had many (many!) publications in the pipeline to be (just) finished. The main challenge is when they really just depend on me and no one is waiting for feedback or relying on it to carry on with their life plans – like when my PhD students need me to read their work, for example.

A main goal for me since last year has been to finish projects with lose ends, and this first image (as well as the other two!) speaks very closely to me.

I am looking forward to this years’ UniSC Research Conference with more inspiring talks!

  1. hope you “ship” those manuscripts this academic year. Something that helps me is to realise that the manuscript will always be criticised and amendments requested – when I submit I am at least dealing with specific requests, rather than the ones in my head.

    1. Thank you Ana! Very good point. It is nice to see you here… One more motivation to start writing here again too. Your month in review posts are still a big inspiration for me and I remember how good it feels to realise how much we have actually achieved during a month period. I really want to get back to those too!
