JCU Sketchers Group
One of the subjects I teach at James Cook University is Design Communication. At the end of this year’s block mode a student asked me if we could have a group to carry on sketching, and so the JCU Sketchers Group was created. We have been meeting every fortnight, on Thursdays 3-4pm. Read more…

The power of seeing
Still with Modern Architecture in mind, a little inspiration for the weekend:
“The greatest thing a human soul ever does in this world is see something, and tell what it saw in a plain way,” said John Ruskin, the guru of the Beaux-Arts schools of the era. “Hundreds of people can talk for one who can think, but thousands can think for one who can see. To see clearly is poetry, prophecy, religion, all in one.”
Hilgendorf Wing: The farewell of a ‘classic brutalist’
Lincoln University classrooms, labs and offices are named after the initial letter of the building name followed by a number. There is an older ‘H’, the Hudson Hall, and the newer one, Hilgendorf Wing. Soon after the university reopened after the February earthquake, the Hilgendorf Building was cordoned off. Read more…
