The Scholarly Writing Process: A Short Guide by Jo VanEvery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“Writing is a process through which you create knowledge. AND Writing is a product that communicates knowledge.” (Kindle Locations 39-42)
This is a brilliant short guide with very direct and helpful advice about the scholarly writing process. As a short guide (40 pages) you have to take it for what it is. It is not a comprehensive guide or workbook, but straight forward advice with a very pleasant writing style.
It covers strategies to move our projects forward, determining which writing products and outlets we should prioritise, how to refine our writing, when does it get finished, how (and to whom) to ask for feedback, and the ‘submission, revision, publication’ process. It finishes with a quick note on why we have to write to generate writing.
If this is any indication, I’ve rushed to buy the ‘Finding Time for Scholarly Writing (Short Guide 2)’.
