7 principles of building better cities, by Peter Calthorpe
I am preparing a ‘Planning Theory and Governance’ course at USC, and as a warm up for my students I shared this TEDTalk by Peter Calthorpe.
In the ‘7 principles of building better cities‘ Peter discusses why we should care about our cities, how we plan and design them and how they affect us, our social wellbeing, economic vitality, sense of community and connectedness. Peter also talks about different kinds of sprawl, beyond the suburbia we usually discuss. These other ‘sprawl types’, can happen even with higher densities.
