My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been consuming plenty of sketch-based books recently, and that was the reason why I bought this one. But then I read the introduction, and it concludes: “Whether you are a visitor or a resident, I hope that you see some of ‘your’ Vancouver in this book, and take it as an invitation to make more of your own discoveries in this remarkable city”. I was disapponted – I don’t live in Vancouver and am probably not going to visit the city any time soon. I regreted to have bought it and thought I’d dislike the book, but that was not at all the case. This book is an absolute delight to read. The drawings are simple but beautiful and full of character, and the snippets of daily life are so real that you can almost feel the atmosphere of the places Emma Fitzgerald describes. While I will definitely take the book with me when (and if) I visit Vancouver, it is a book for everyone interested in cities, city life and art. I am now looking forward to ‘visiting’ Halifax and Nova Scotia through Emma’s eyes.
